Dessert or Nightcap?

Ever had difficulty choosing between having a little dessert or ending your evening with a nightcap?

Solution? Boozy desserts!

I discovered this today when I was trying to make space in my fridge and found a not so good bottle of rose that I bought a while back. My remedy? Make Rose Berry Sorbet!

Simply combine 2/3 cup sugar, 2 cups rose. Bring to boil.
Add 3 cups raspberries or berries (frozen or fresh).
I used a combo of both, fresh blueberries, and frozen berries.
Puree in a blender and freeze.

Since V isn't so much of a rose fan I made him Bourbon balls, Courtesy of 101 Cookie Recipes

2.5 cups Vanilla wafers
not to be confused with these, like I did.
1 cup walnuts
Process until fine in  food processor.

Double boil 3/4 cup semi sweet chocolate chips, 2 tablespoons corn syrup, 1 cup sugar, stir constantly. Remove from heat, add 1/2 cup bourbon and/or whiskey.

Mix with dry ingredients and roll into balls and dredge through powdered sugar.

Bourbon balls were like chocolatey boozy cookie dough, sorbet was more like granita than sorbet but all in all, not bad!

Return to Halifax

It has been several years since Sophia and I have had the pleasure of cooking together in our lovely Halifax attic apartment.

We finally reunited with our third companion, Caroline, in Halifax this past month. We may not have had the chance this time to cook together but we did enjoy many fabulous meals together.

The most noteworthy is the eggs poutine benedict prepared by Caroline's own chef, Ian. This heavenly creation was prepared with hashbrowns, cheese curds, home made scratch hollandaise and two perfectly poached eggs, featured below.

We enjoyed the benedict with a fresh salad and Ian's own home made granola with strawberries sauteed with tequila, which gave the strawberries a softness and wonderful sweetness.

I came back from my trip inspired to share my recipes once again with my old friends from Halifax.
Thank you Caroline and Ian for hosting us!! Thank you to Sophie for traveling to Halifax to visit :D
